Is the $1,000 Trump Account deposit automatic?
No. Even if Treasury opened an account for your child, you have to claim the money.
Rules checked October 18, 2026
No. The $1,000 is a one-time deposit from the US Treasury for children born from January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2028, and a parent or guardian has to request it. In a survey of 1,004 parents, only 32% knew that.
But I heard accounts are opened automatically
Treasury plans to create accounts automatically for eligible children who do not have one yet. An account created that way does not get the $1,000 by itself. Someone with authority over the child still has to claim the account, and then claim the deposit.
Who qualifies for the $1,000
- Born from January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2028
- A US citizen with a valid Social Security number
- Claimed as your dependent
- Has not already received the deposit (it is once per child)
