How to claim the $1,000

It is not automatic: a parent has to request it. There are two ways to do it; pick one. For children born January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2028.

1. Have these ready

Your child's Social Security number (from the card, or the letter that came with it)
Your own details, to verify your identity if you claim in the app
Proof you can act for your child, if the app asks (you're a parent or legal guardian)

2. Claim it

With your tax return. Best if you file soon or use tax software.

Add IRS Form 4547 (Trump Account Election) to your federal tax return. In tax software, search for Form 4547. E-filing is recommended.
Choose to open the account, and tick the box that requests the $1,000 pilot contribution.
File by the normal deadline. Do not attach Form 4547 to an amended return.

3. After you claim

Watch for confirmation that the deposit arrived.
Only one account per child. Once it's set up, family can add up to $5,000 a year, and your employer may contribute too.
